A LEAK in an LPG gas cylinder used in a cooking stove is believed to have caused a fire which gutted a house in Kampong Ayer yesterday morning that attracted scores of onlookers.
The raging fire and billowing thick smoke could be seen from the bank of Brunei River in the capital.
The Fire and Rescue Department said it received a distress call at 10.29am regarding the fire at the house in Kampong Lorong Sikuna and dispatched 24 personnel in four fire engine boats from the Marine Fire Station, Sungai Kebun Fire Station and Pelancaran Fire Station in Kampong Ayer.
The operation led by Commanding Officer Operation ‘D’ SFR Nohi Erwan Sukarki managed to contain the fire within 14 minutes, the department said.

No casualties were reported but the incident caused an estimated loss of $65,000.
Following initial investigations, the department believed that a loose connector to the regulator of the LPG gas cylinder sparked the fire.
