EIGHTEEN academic staff from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) attended the Islamic Higher Education Regional Seminar (SeIPTI) at Universiti Islam Sains Malaysia (USIM) from November 25-26.
The annual seminar was first held in 2012, and is a strategic collaboration of four universities, namely UNISSA, USIM, Universitas Darussalam Gontor Indonesia (UNIDA) and Universiti Fatoni Thailand.
The seminar was officiated by President of the Legislative Assembly of Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia Zulkefly Mohamad bin Omar.
Each year SeIPTI discusses a different theme, specifically with regards to the development of Islamic studies. The theme for SeIPTI 2018 was ‘Pioneering Barakah Campus: Toward Global Excellence of Regional Islamic Higher Education Institutions.’
It was shared that 110 papers were presented, including 18 papers from UNISSA.
A forum discussing the theme ‘Barakah Campus’ was also held after the opening ceremony, involving heads of four universities as panellists, with UNISSA represented by its Assistant Rector Dr Arman bin Haji Asmad.
A paper written by Dr Hajah Lilly Suzana binti Haji Shamsu along with Ustazah Hajah Nurol Haklimatul Wara’ binti Haji Momin was awarded ‘best paper’ in the Malay Language paper category. In addition, a paper written by Dr Haji Sohibuddin bin Laming received an award in the Arabic Language paper category.
The press release added that there was also a ceremony for a handover between the USIM Vice-Chancellor to the UNISSA Assistant Rector for the hosting of SeIPTI 2019, which will mark the second time UNISSA has host SeIPTI since 2013.
