BRUNEI will celebrate its 25th Teachers’ Day tomorrow with a special gathering at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in the morning, and an award presentation later in the afternoon, at the same venue.
Yesterday, a recitation of Surah Yaasiin, Tahlil and Doa Arwah was held by the Ministry of Education (MoE), with the joint cooperation of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), for His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s late parents, Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Bendahara Pengiran Anak Abdul Rahman, at the Royal Mausoleum near the capital.
Present was Minister of Education, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Education, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yusoff bin Haji Ismail; Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE, Dr Haji Junaidi bin Haji Abdul Rahman; Permanent Secretary at the MoRA, Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof; and Deputy Permanent Secretaries at the MoRA, Haji Harun bin Haji Junid and Roslan bin Haji Taja’ah.

Also in attendance were Chairman of the Public Service Commission, Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Abu Bakar bin Pengiran Seri Indera Pengiran Haji Ismail, and other senior government officers.
Officers and staff, including several teachers, from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Religious Affairs, also attended the religious gathering.
A thanksgiving prayer for Teachers’ Day will be held today at Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the capital, where recitations of the Ratib Al-Attas and Doa will take place during the afternoon mass prayers.
On September 28, a nationwide thanksgiving prayer will be held simultaneously in schools under the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Teachers: The Catalyst for Visionary Individuals’.
