THIRTY-ONE officer cadets from the 15th Intake of the Officer Cadet School (OCS) received their new ranks during an appointment ceremony, which was held yesterday at the new Defence Academy of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (DA RBAF).

The guest of honour was the Commander of the RBAF, Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah.

The event commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a Doa Selamat, prior to the official appointment of the 31 officer cadets, including a recipient of the Supreme Commander of the RBAF Scholarship, and two recipients of the RBAF Scholarship.

In his speech, the Commander of RBAF said the newly appointed officer cadets would be trained and guided in line with the OCS motto that emphasises the values of “Setia, Taqwa dan Berani” (Loyalty, Piety and Courage).

Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih also informed that the officer cadets would be undergoing bilateral leadership training in neighbouring countries.

He expressed his belief that such training would produce capable military leaders who are not only aware of diverse operational techniques, but also various aspects of their work culture and ethics.

He added that the officer cadets’ training will involve them being exposed to risky elements, in order for them to overcome their fears and to boost their agility.

However, the exercises would be conducted carefully and systematically, in a safe environment, all the while maintaining the realism of risk management and control during training.

“It is the RBAF’s responsibility, particularly the OCS, in providing the best training and guidance from this institution to be potent in various aspects – mentally, physically, spiritually and socially,” he said.

Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih ended his speech with the officiating of the 15th Intake of the OCS.

In August 2015, the Cadet Officers went through several assessments by the Armed Forces Commission Board (AFCB) for their potential as RBAF military officers through leadership, critical thinking and physical fitness.

They will be the first intake to start a 12-month long commissioning course at the new site in Tanah Jambu.

The main focus is to develop leadership, character and intellect in order to prepare them for their first appointment as newly commission officers in their respective services.

Also present at the ceremony yesterday were service commanders, commandants, directors, officers and staff members of DA RBAF, along with the officer cadets and their family members.
