THE Cardiology Society of Brunei Darussalam (CSBD) will be organising its annual scientific symposium from September 25-27, the second time it is holding the event.
The three-day gathering will feature a pre-conference symposium that will take place on September 25, focusing on cardiac imaging, the role of chest X-Rays and echocardiography in accident and emergency departments, as well as defining the role of cardiac CT and MRI scans; a gala dinner on September 26 that will see a keynote lecture presented by a consultant cardiologist invited from the National University Heart Centre of Singapore, Dr Pipin Kojodjojo; and the actual symposium itself on September 27, wich will cover issues of promoting education, training and research in cardiovascular-related fields.
Cardiothoracic surgeon, Executive Director and Medical Director at the Gleneagles Jerudong Park Medical Centre, in his capacity as the President of the CSBD, Dato Paduka Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, said the gathering was aimed at promoting ongoing developments in cardiovascular care to assist the country continue achieving landmarks.
The country’s landmarks in this field include implanting the world’s smallest remote cardiac monitoring system – a REVEAL LINQ device – in which 30 patients have undergone the procedure; implanting Left Ventricular Assist Devices in four patients; implanting the world’s smallest leadless pacemaker – a MICRA device – into five patients, as well as carrying out a MitraClip procedure, an advance medical technique allowing for the repair of a heart’s mitral valve without the need for surgery.
