RIMBA Royals can hold their heads up high after placing fourth in the Under-15 category of the Jerudong International School (JIS) Netball Funday despite a lack of communication last Sunday.
The scale of success must be silently applauded even though the team was plagued with concerns surrounding the unity of the players.
“Sometimes we get emotional because we don’t have communication and teamwork. Some people try to be selfish and doesn’t give the ball to us,” Siti Nur Hazirah, Under-15 Rimba Royals team captain said in an interview with the Bulletin.
With students from various classes put together in one team, Rimba Royals has been working for two years and train twice a week.
Despite the superiority which JIS demonstrates after chalking five victories out of six finals contested, Rimba Royals were by all means no pushovers despite the complexities of the team’s formation.
The Rimba-based secondary institution fared well in the tournament managing four victories but missed out on a medal as JIS swept all in the Under-15 category.
Although the JIS competition was Nur Hazirah’s first netball appearance, she is considered somewhat a regular in the netball scene having represented a team 10 times spanning four years of experience in the sport.
The difficulty of the competition even suggested that the Rimba Royals has a certain probability of overhauling the top elites.
“I would say the level of difficulty is intermediate because the JIS Rangers is pretty strong,” said Nur Hazirah, who can operate as a centre and goal attack.
JIS Rangers went on to finish in second place behind Under-15 champions JIS Wildcats. Putting the team’s differences aside, the Rimba-based team reached the semifinals after completing five games in the group stage.
