17 MPK members from Seria attend BSP fire prevention course

THE Village Consultative Council (MPK) for the Landless Indigenous Citizens Housing Scheme (STKRJ) of Lorong Tiga Selatan, Seria yesterday attended a fire prevention course organised by BSP Fire and Emergency Response Services at their station in Panaga.

Seventeen people led by the Village Head of Kg STKRJ Lorong Tiga Selatan participated in the course which was divided into three parts and spread out throughout the compound.

At the main building of the station, the group attended an introductory briefing which described the station and its roles of fire prevention in both onshore and offshore especially when it is related to an asset belonging to the Brunei Shell Petroleum.

The topic then perpetuated to the importance of fire prevention knowledge in homes which covered introductions to the types of extinguishers and the dos and don’ts during an emergency.

After the briefing, the group was divided into two and was led by the fire officials to the exterior compound of the station where they each got the opportunity to put out fires with the different kinds of extinguisher.

At the same time the second batch experienced a simulation of what it’s like when in a building with lights going off in the night and there is a need to find a safe exit. The members had to use their remaining senses of touch, hearing and spatial awareness skills going through tunnels and pathways in pitch blackness.

At the completion of the course, the members were awarded with certificates of participation by the Chief of BSP Fire and Emergency Response Services.
