DOZENS of Mukim Berakas ‘B’ residents came together yesterday at the RPN Lambak Kanan Mosque to take part in the cleaning campaign on the mosque’s premises.
Present as guest of honour during the campaign was Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim, Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer.
Also in attendance were Haji Shaharuddin Khairul bin Haji Anuar, Acting Director of Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe); Imam Haji Abdul Malik bin Haji Jumat, RPN Lambak Kanan Mosque Affairs Officer; Penghulu and village heads as well as residents of Mukim Berakas ‘B’.
The activity started as early as 7.30am when the participants of the campaign gathered at the compound of the mosque and then divided to clean the surrounding areas.

In an interview with the Bulletin, Pengiran Haji Ali bin Pengiran Maun, Penghulu of Mukim Berakas ‘B’ said that the campaign was part of the Mukim Consultative Council’s programme in raising awareness among members of the public to maintain the mosque and surrounding areas cleanliness for its congregants.
Pengiran Haji Ali said that the areas near the mosque used to become a dumping ground for most of the residents and it was not a pleasant sight for the congregants.
He added that they had to hire workers to help them clear the garbage dump prior to the cleaning campaign. For that, he urged the residents to subscribe to waste collection services to prevent from dumping waste in public areas.
According to him, the campaign eyed to encourage residents to take responsibilities in maintaining the cleanliness of their sacred place of worship as well as to enhance the relationship among the congregants, residents and the local authorities.
