THE Oil and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC) recently welcomed 400 students and teachers from eight different schools namely, Tunas Jaya PGGMB School, Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam Secondary School, Bakti Dewa School, Chung Hwa Middle School, Keriam Primary School, Panaga Primary School, Rambai Primary School and St James’s School.
All students and teachers were entertained by science communicators and science facilitators of OGDC. Students were combined and divided into groups and brought for various activities which took place at the centre’s exhibition hall and theatre. Students were brought for an educational visit around the oil and gas section whereby after every visit, students were given quizzes to answer based on the information that they have gathered. They were also brought for a tour of OGDC’s themed exhibition and had a fun informative experience on the curve ball ride, bed of nails and the guillotine exhibition.
A technology challenge called the Safety Helmet was also conducted for Keriam Primary School. The technology challenge explained the importance of using a safety helmet when riding a two-wheeled vehicle, simultaneously showing the consequences that one may suffer should a driver fail to use a safety helmet as well as the collision impact that the driver experiences when an accident occurs.
The tour concluded with a science show called the ‘Liquid Nitrogen Show’. Students were able to have a firsthand view of how nitrogen gas looks like when it is in liquid form and observe how cold it is. They learned the properties of liquid nitrogen and its different uses especially in the oil and gas industry.
