A GROUP of over a dozen individuals over the weekend disconnected from their typical daily lives to foster wellness in the Temburong District’s pristine rainforests as part of the first wellness retreat programme organised by Hip and Healthy Brunei.
Set in the backdrop of Temburong’s hilly greenery, the group set up camp at the Sumbiling Eco Village in Jalan Batang
Duri, a mere 20 minutes’ drive from the Bangar jetty.
Set on a three-acre piece of land, the Sumbiling Eco Village provides for those who wish to disengage from the city life and meditate in the heart of nature; the perfect location for a detoxification that the participants were looking forward to under the ‘Reflections in the Rainforest’ retreat programme.
Over the weekend, the Hip and Healthy group practised yoga, meditation and mindfulness under the teachings of two yoga trainers.

The group also shared in the tranquillity of activities in nature, including long walks foraging for wild vegetables, as well as light water activities.
On the programme’s first day, the group practised Hatha yoga on an open field during sunset, which provided a calming nice backdrop that encouraged their state of meditation.
The next day also saw several yoga sessions slotted in between healthy meal sessions and more water activities, including river-tubing and river-rafting.
Some of the participants also took time to learn traditional handicraft-making, taking full advantage of the peace that the eco village has to offer.
Given the success of this programme, Hip and Healthy will be organising more retreats in the future – particularly set amidst nature’s serene assets – in a bid to promote self-mindfulness and practices of yoga.
