THE Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources (MIPR) has urged the private sector to provide more support in the development of the country’s tourism industry.
Meanwhile, the ministry, through the Marketing and Promotion Centre and the Tourism Development Department, is backing the Tutong District Office’s ‘Destination Tutong’ initiative. Last Wednesday, a group of stakeholders in local tourism was given a familiarisation tour of the packages and products available in the district.
According to the ministry, Tutong’s eco-tourism, as well as its culture and local history, are popular among visitors.
“With these in the offering, the district can provide appealing choices for visitors, and give them more reasons to return. This will also give the district the opportunity to further diversify and share its nature, culture and history with the region,” said the ministry.
Earlier, this year, Minister of Industry and Primary Resources Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar noted that the tourism sector is focusing on the development of tourism products.
Currently, the ministry is working together with stakeholders to ensure that local tourism is suitable to be marketed on the same level as that of neighbouring countries; and it is welcoming the private sector to provide support in the industry’s development.
