A FORMER Bruneian participant of the Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Programme (SSEAYP) recently received an award at the 28th SSEAYP International General Assembly (SIGA) in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Mosli bin Haji Abdul Hadis, Deputy President II (National) of Association Alumni of SSEAYP International Brunei (BERSATU), received the SSEAYP International Award that is given to individuals or organisations that have provided valuable contributions to the cause of SSEAYP International.
The award is given once in every three years. The SSEAYP International Award scheme aims to encourage and appreciate the alumni members, people and organisations for their voluntary spirit and contributions to their society.
Mosli took part in the SSEAYP in 1987 when he was 25. In 2012, he was appointed to lead a group of 28 Bruneian youths as young ambassadors for the 39th SSEAYP, according to a statement from BERSATU.

SIGA is an annual general meeting of former participants of the SSEAYP, their host families as well as parents and friends. It is organised by SSEAYP International (SI) and hosted by the alumni associations on a rotational basis.
The objectives of SIGA are to create the opportunity for the reunion of former participants and host families in order to realise the desire to promote lasting friendship, understanding and goodwill among the people of Asean and Japan; to help in the development of exchanging the information on activities of respective alumni association; and to support the local community in promoting youth activities and social services at the both international and local levels.
This year the annual event was hosted by SSEAYP International Alumni Cambodia in Siem Reap from April 29 to May 2. The theme was ‘SSEAYP Cooperation for a Greener World.’
SIGA in Cambodia provided a great opportunity for former participants to reunite, have fun and explore the land of ancient temples in Cambodia.
Nineteen former SSEAYP participants from Brunei Darussalam led by Mosli attended the event that was officiated by Dr Sean Borath, Secretary of State, who presented the award.
