AIMING to serve as a platform to promote local small and medium enterprises (SMEs), the local Entrepreneurship Expo was launched yesterday at the International Convention Centre.

Some 13 booths have been set up at the expo comprising mostly food and beverages and textile outlets.

Organised by SKSU Company, the three-day expo also features cosplay, a gunplay competition as well as board game activities organised by Bruneian Cozplay Hobbies and Collection.

One of the SMEs participating in the expo is Maanggaris Enterprise that offers local wild honey for sale.

The pure wild honey comes from forests in the country, and in different varieties. Founded by two best friends, Mohd Firdaus and Mohd Ubaidillah, Maanggaris Enterprise started its rise to fame after joining an expo last year.

“We started off selling the wild honey to close friends and family. It had a very good response,” said Mohd Firdaus.

“We then felt that there is a niche market in the country that we can tap into and has a potential to grow, so we started harvesting more wild honey deep in the forest to produce more.”

He also highlighted the need to increase awareness especially in identifying local authentic honey.

Mohd Firdaus noted that Brunei’s honey has a more watery texture because of the wet climate while honey from the Middle East has a thicker texture due to the hot weather there.

He also highlighted that wild honey is more expensive due to its quality and difficulty of harvesting compared to honey from farms.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Muzzam bin Sham Khiruddin, an active member of the Brunei Board Gamer Association, highlighted the advantage of participating in board games, which is among the anticipated activities of the expo.

Board games use more creativity and innovation compared to applications in phones.

It also allows for better interaction with others, he said.

He also recommended Japanese tabletop role-playing games for locals, hoping to distribute the board games in Brunei through his company Chronicle’s Symphony.

“We want to share our interest with the public through the event in hopes to support local entrepreneurs,” said Pengiran Walli of Bruneian Cozplay Hobbies and Collection.
