Diplomatic Corps holds farewell luncheon for outgoing Pakistan High Commissioner

THE Diplomatic Corps in Brunei Darussalam yesterday held a farewell luncheon at the Orchid Garden Hotel for Brigadier (Rtd) Muhammad Zareef Malik, the outgoing High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Brunei Darussalam, and his spouse Nayyara Malik.

Chhay Sokhan, the Ambassador of the Royal Kingdom of Cambodia to Brunei Darussalam, in his welcoming remarks expressed farewell wishes on behalf of the Diplomatic Corps and highlighted the warm relationship established during their tenure in Brunei Darussalam.

Brigadier (Rtd) Muhammad Zareef Malik expressed his happiness and gratitude and said that it has been an eventful two-years during which he was able to explore different places in the country.

He explained that during his tenure in the country, he also had the opportunity to understand the culture, customs and the people of Brunei, and learn how things work in the Sultanate.

“Brunei and Pakistan have enjoyed cordial relations with each other in so many different fields such as education, health and defence,” he added.

Before concluding his speech, Brigadier (Rtd) Muhammad Zareef Malik also thanked the Diplomatic Corps for hosting the luncheon and cherished the friendship as well as the support that he and his family received during his term in the Sultanate.

He also thanked the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for the support and cooperation.

Brigadier (Rtd) Muhammad Zareef Malik was posted as the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Brunei in 2014. Prior to his term in the Sultanate, he served almost 29 years in the Pakistan Army and retired in 1993. During his service he held different commands and staff appointments and also served in the French Armed Forces War Course in Paris for three years.
