MEMBERS of the Diplomatic Corps in the country signed a book of condolences at the Philippines Chancery in Jalan Kebangsaan yesterday, honouring the memory of the late Foreign Affairs Secretary of the Republic of the Philippines, Domingo L Siazon Jr, who died on May 3, 2016 in Tokyo, Japan at the age of 76.
Among those who turned up yesterday afternoon to sign the book were foreign envoys and their representatives.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Siazon led a distinguished career in the Philippine Foreign Service from 1966 to 2010.
He was the Philippine Ambassador to Australia from 1975-1986 during which term he also served as Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency and the United Nations (UN), Vienna.

He was the first elected Director-General of the UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) from 1985-1993 and served as ambassador to Japan twice from 1993-1995 and again from 2001-2010.
As Foreign Affairs Secretary from 1995-2001, he directed Philippine foreign policy during a period of economic expansion and political optimism in the Philippines and laid the groundwork for enhanced regional cooperation.
Secretary Siazon, though is widely known as a statesman and diplomat, will be fondly remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather by his wife, Kay Siazon, their two children and respective families.
The condolence book is open again today until 4pm.
