THE first day of Ramadhan witnessed huge crowds at the Ramadhan food stalls at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, despite the stifling heat.
Awangku Mohd Safiy bin Pengiran Saidin said that the heat was a non-issue for him and his siblings. “I like the fact that the gerai (stalls) this year are offering up a wide range of foodstuff. I also think we might be seeing a lot of small and medium enterprises business (SMEs) and online vendors expanding their businesses this year. As a customer, I think that’s good since it’s easier for customers to interact with them in person.”
More than 400 vendors are participating in this year’s Gerai Ramadhan.
Food items range from local crowd favourites such as Nasi Katok and Nasi Penyet, to Shawarma dishes from the Middle East, and Korean food.
Suria, who owns and manages Suria Egg Tart, is one of the many SMEs entrepreneurs participating in this year’s Gerai Ramdhan. “Alhamdulillah, the public response so far is good,” she said. “This is our second participation and customers enjoy coming to our stall for its accessibility.”
