A TOTAL of $47,800 worth of Zakat (tithe) collection was distributed to the ‘asnaf fakir miskin’ (the poor and destitute) yesterday in a ceremony that was held at the Kampong Tamoi Mosque.
At the ceremony, a total of 34 family heads received the donations which were divided into two parts – $500 for the family heads, while their dependants received $400.
Present to hand over the Zakat money was Dr Haji Japar bin Haji Mat Dain @ Maidin, a member of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB).
The recipients yesterday comprised those living in the vicinity of Kampong Ayer including Kampong Tamoi Tengah, Kampong Ujong Bukit, Kampong Lurong Dalam, Kampong Pandai Besi ‘A’ and ‘B’, Kampong Sungai Kedayan, Kampong Sungai Pandan ‘A’, Kampong Saba, Kampong Lurong Sikuna, Kampong Peramu, Kampong Bolkiah ‘A’ and ‘B’, Kampong Burong Pingai Ayer Sungai Kebun and Kampong Lumapas.
One of the recipients, Jasnih binti Poly, told the Bulletin that the donation she received will be used for her family’s needs.
