HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended the National-Level Nuzul Al-Quran Ceremony 1437H last night at the International Convention Centre, Berakas.
His Majesty was greeted on arrival by Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs who is the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Major Islamic Events Celebrations 1437 Hijrah as well as other members of the committee.
Also attending the ceremony were His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik, and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.
The winners of the National Level Al-Quran Memorisation and Understanding Competition 2016 were announced by Haji Abdul Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh, Director of Mosque Affairs who is the Chairman of the Judging Committee.
Category ‘A’ (age 10 and below) involved selected Chapters from Juzuk 30: Surah Al-Buruuj, Surah Ath-Thaariq, Surah Al-A’laa, Surah Al-Ghaasyiah, Surah Al-Balad, Surah Asy-Syams, Surah Al-Lail and compilation of Surah-Surah Lazim starting from Surah Ad-Dhuhaa until Surah An-Naas, together with the Understanding of Surah Al- Ghaasyiah, Surah Al-Fajr, Surah Ad-Dhuhaa dan Surah Al-Qadr.
In first place was Muhammad Nurhidayatullah Al-Mu’min bin Rossnan who received $1,500, a trophy and certificate. In second place were Waliyah binti Haji Kamarul Azam and Ezyan Adibah binti Mohd Hanafi who each received $1,000, a trophy and certificate. The consolation prize winners received $300, a trophy and certificate.

Category ‘B’ (Age 15 and below) focused on Quranic verses of Surah As-Sajdah, Surah Yaasiin, Surah Al-Insaan, Surah Ar-Rahmaan, Surah Al-Waaqi’ah and Surah Al-Mulk together with their understanding.
In first place was Nur Syafiqah binti Mohammad Saidi who received $2,000, a trophy and certificate. In second place was Awangku Mohamad Khairul Hakimin bin Pengiran Mohamad Aminuddin who received $1,500, a trophy and certificate. In third place was Awangku Muhammad Fakhrur Razey bin Pengiran Damit who received $1,200, a trophy and certificate. The consolation prize winners received $400, a trophy and certificate.
Participants in Category ‘C’ were required to memorise three Juzuks of the Al-Quran from Juzuk 1 until Juzuk 3 along with the understanding of Juzuk 3. The category was open to all age groups who haven’t received the allowance for the Brunei Darussalam Al-Quran Tasmie’ Memorisation Assessment in category 10, 20 and 30 Juzuk; and haven’t been two-time Category ‘C’ champions.
The first place winner Abdul Aziz bin Noor Nasran received $2,800, a trophy and certificate. The second place winner Hajah Norhidayatul Mukminah binti Haji Puteh received $2,000, a trophy and certificate. The third place winner Hajah Adzimah Mukarramah binti Haji Salleh received $1,500, a trophy and certificate. Consolation prize winners received $500, a trophy and certificate.
Category ‘D’ participants were required to memorise 15 Juzuk of Al-Quran from Juzuk 1 until Juzuk 15 as well as the understanding of Juzuk 10.
The category was open to all age groups who haven’t been three-time champions in Category ‘C’ and haven’t been three-time champions in the 30 Juzuk memorisation musabaqah, and haven’t received the allowance for the Brunei Darussalam Al-Quran Tasmie’ Memorisation Assessment in category 20 and 30 Juzuks.

Hidayat received $3,500, a trophy and certificate. The second place winner Muhammad Abdul Majeed Ariffin bin Pengiran Haji
Abdul Aziz received $2,500, a trophy and certificate. The third place winner Nor Hafizah binti Haji Jahari received $2,000, a trophy and certificate. The consolation prize winners received $600, a trophy and certificate.
Category ‘E’ participants were required to memorise 30 Juzuk of Al-Quran from Juzuk 1 to Juzuk 30 along with the understanding of Juzuk 21. The category was open to all ages, and participants who have been champions for three consecutive years can participate again after two years the competition has been held.
First place winner Dayangku Nurol Hafizah binti Pengiran Tejudin received $5,000, a trophy and certificate. The second place winner Muhamad Hazri bin Haji Mohd Hamzani received $3,500, a trophy and certificate. The third place winner Irma Mohammad Hazmie bin Haji Matussin received $2,500, a trophy and certificate. The consolation prize winners received $800, a trophy and certificate.
A religious talk entitled ‘Al-Quran is Cure and Therapy to Spiritual and Mental Wellbeing’ was also delivered by Dr Abang Haji Hadzmin bin Abang Haji Taha, Assistant Ra’es of Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan.
This year’s event was co-organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Prisons Department, Ministry of Home Affairs, and DataStream Technology Sdn Bhd.
