A KHATAM Al-Quran ceremony for Bruneian youth participants (BPY) of the Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Programme (SSEAYP) back in 1989 was held yesterday at the Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Mosque in Kampong Sungai Akar, as part of their annual religious activity to enliven the holy month of Ramadhan.
Present as guest of honour at the ceremony was the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof.
The event commenced with the recitation of the Surah Al-Fatihah led by the mosque’s Imam, followed by the recitations of Takhtim Khatam Al-Quran, Tahlil and a closing prayer.
Some 30 individuals, comprising former Bruneian participants of SSEAYP 1989 and also their children took part in the Khatam Al-Quran, which organisers said is held to attain and reap blessings from Allah the Almighty especially in the month of Ramadhan.
The event also saw the breaking of fast, before the mass Maghrib prayer.
