LOCAL vendors, especially cake entrepreneurs, participating in the two-week Ramandhan Al-Mubarak Expo 2016 at the Indoor Stadium are again hoping for sweet success.
Some 70 booths offering local cakes, Hari Raya decorations, clothing and other items are available at the expo that is supported by Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism. The expo is organised by Tech Evolution Media Company.
Dayang Rina, the project manager said, “The expo provides a platform to promote local entrepreneurship and for consumers to purchase Raya items under one roof.”
In past years, the expo was a hit among locals and she hoped that this year’s will also be a successful event.
One of the local cake entrepreneurs participating in the expo is Marzu Enterprise that has been in business for 20 years.
Dayang Zuraiyati, the owner of the family-run home-based business said, “We have received a very good response from customers since the expo started yesterday (June 22).”
Marzu Enterprise which specialises in a variety of Kek Lapis (layer cake) and Raya snacks such as crackers and peanuts has joined several other expos and exhibitions such as the Consumer Fair.
Another local business, Siti Mariam Bakery and Cake House is also expecting to do well at the expo.
Dayang Syaima, the daughter of the founder of the business, who is manning their booth along with her friends said, “We’ve joined this expo three years in a row. We have received a very good response from the public. We hope to further promote our Kek Lapis and cake rolls.”
Siti Mariam Bakery and Cake House which sells 23 varieties of Kek Lapis and 17 types of cake rolls, hopes that one day, its cakes will make their way to neighbouring countries.
Singer-turned-entrepreneur Deja Moss from Malaysia is expected to make an appearance on June 28 at the expo. Deja Moss’ Kek Lapis products are also available at the expo.
Side activities such as ‘Guess and Win’ contest offering prizes such as Raya hampers and shopping vouchers as well as animal and cat shows have also been lined up at the expo.
