50 families receive Raya contributions

FIFTY underprivileged families has their spirits lifted yesterday as they received essential food items for the upcoming Hari Raya celebrations, through the Infaq project organised by the Women Business Council Brunei Darussalam (WBC) in collaboration with The Body Shop.

The handing over of contributions was held at the Youth Centre in the capital, attended by WBC President Datin Paduka Hajah Rokiah bin Haji Zakiah and Topform Co Sdn Bhd (The Body Shop) General Manager Zaslin Maidin.

A total sum of $6,899.60 was raised between June 13 and 19, when purchases made at The Body Shop outlets nationwide automatically contributed part of proceeds from sales to fund the Food Bag of WBC in the Infaq project.

The first of its kind ‘Shop with A Cause’ initiative, in collaboration with WBC, was a success, for which Datin Paduka Hajah Rokiah conveyed her gratitude to The Body Shop.

In her speech, she said, “We would like to thank The Body Shop for choosing WBC as its partner on this initiative to contribute 16 types of food as well as cash for underprivileged families today. We chose the number 16 because this year marks the 16th anniversary of WBC.”

Touching on the objective of Infaq project, she explained “it aims to raise awareness among our members and the public to be charitable and to help those in need.”

With the project officially launched yesterday, the president hopes to invite the private sector and individuals to step forward and become partner with WBC in future undertaking of the project.

Meanwhile, Zaslin Maidin revealed that one of its popular products, Eine Almond Hand Cream – with its special edition deigned by a famous street artist in United Kingdom, received overwhelming response from customers, and helped raise $1,012.50 for the Infaq project.

The remaining sum of $5,887 was raised between June 13 and 19 June through ‘The Shop with a Cause’ initiative.

Suzaillah binti Haji Yahya, one of the recipients, conveyed her heartfelt thanks to WBC and The Body Shop for the contribution.

The mother of seven children who has no income aside from assistance from the Community Development Department noted, “Contributions, no matter how small or big, can help us pull through to celebrate Hari Raya.”
