FOUR traffic offences were recorded during a district-wide police operation in Brunei-Muara yesterday aimed at promoting road safety in view of the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri festivities.
The operation codenamed ‘Ops Tegas 6’, which was coordinated by the Traffic Control and Investigation Department (JSKLL) of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), saw roadblocks being set up in four locations: Tungku Link highway towards Muara-Tutong Highway, Tungku Link highway towards Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Highway, Muara-Tutong Highway and Jalan Damuan highway.
During the operation, a driver was fined for having an expired driver’s licence, while three others were slapped with compound fines for offences such as not displaying a road tax sticker on the windscreen, having an unauthorised licence plate and having worn-out tyres.
Sgt Major Haji Abu Bakar bin Haji Abdul Rahman, who led the roadblock operation at the Rimba Link highway, noted that common offences include not wearing safety belts, having an expired road tax or invalid insurance coverage, as well as fitting tinted films on windows without prior approval.
According to him, road safety for all motorists is paramount, especially as the festive season looms. This is why it’s important to check on the road-worthiness of vehicles. He also urged all road users to drive cautiously and comply with the road traffic regulations.

Yesterday’s district-wide operation, which involved some 84 JSKLL personnel, was spearheaded by DSP Mohd Fathdillah bin Haji Abdul Hamid.
Last year, two road fatalities were recorded in the same period close to the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festivities.
Acting Director of JSKLL, Senior Superintendent Haji Mohd Hassan bin Pehin Penyurat Haji Ahmad, recently revealed that police presence would be intensified across the nation so as to ensure the safety of all road users. Regular patrols will also be carried out at specific areas, he added.
The police in a statement yesterday urged motorists to take extra precautions. “Drivers are reminded to drive below the speed limit and refrain from using mobile phones while driving. Drivers and passengers should also wear seat belts at all times,” read the statement.
The police also advised road users not to drive when they are feeling tired and to plan their travel routes well ahead of time.
