SPEEDBOAT operators reported brisk business yesterday due to demand from travellers who attended the get-together ceremony held in Temburong District in conjunction with the 70th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
Speedboat operators at the jetty in the capital said the speedboats are still a popular way to travel to the Temburong District during major occasions to avoid long queues at the land control posts.
“We normally receive many passengers during grand events in the district such as His Majesty’s get-together ceremony,” said one operator.
Several speedboats were fully booked yesterday to transport locals and foreign tourists who wanted to go to Temburong for the grand event. A speedboat trip from the capital to Pekan Bangar, Temburong takes about 45 minutes which is quicker than by land as travellers have to queue up at the control posts.
