MOSQUES across the country have seen a significant increase in the number of youths signing up as members of the ‘Mosque Youth’ initiative, which promotes religious and community programmes and activities among youths in selected mosques.

According to Mosque Affairs Director Haji Abdul Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh in his speech at a Hari Raya gathering for Mosque Youth members nationwide yesterday, the numbers have been increasing every year, growing to 2,340 members to date from 2,211 as of last year.

The programme, which aims to spark greater interest for more youths to partake in religious activities organised at mosques, has seen increasing involvement in mosque activities especially in community work.

“Their activities are also supported by the Mosque Takmir Committee members and Village Consultative Councils who jointly organise charity events for families in need from time to time,” the director added.
