NANYANG Technological University (NTU) yesterday awarded the Nanyang Distinguished Alumni Award to Minister of Education Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong in a ceremony held at the office of the University President in Singapore.
The award was handed over by the President of the Nanyang Technological University, Professor Bertil Anderson.
The Brunei minister was among the three recipients to receive the recognition. Other recipients were Teo Ser Luck, Minister of State in the Ministry of Manpower, and Mayor of North East District in Singapore and Dato Seri Pahlawan Ng Joo Hee, Executive Head of Public Utilities Board and Deputy Secretary (Special Duties) at the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Singapore.
The award recognised and appreciated the minister’s contribution to education in Brunei Darussalam. Since assuming the portfolio as Minister of Education on May 29, 2010, the education sector here has grown significantly and contributed towards development of the country.

Nanyang Technological University is among the world’s top institutions with a rank of 13 in the QS World University Rankings and is the second best university in the QS Asian University Rankings.
Also present at the ceremony were Institut Teknologi Brunei Vice-Chancellor Associate Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman and Universiti Brunei Darussalam Assistant Vice-Chancellor Dr Joyce Teo Siew Yean.
