THE Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II, Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, signed the book of condolence on behalf of the Brunei Government yesterday, as a tribute to the late SR Nathan, the former president of the Republic of Singapore.
Speaking to the media, the Singapore High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, Lim Hong Huai, said that SR Nathan made several efforts to boost ties between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore.
“He had many close friends and knew a lot of people in the Sultanate,” said Lim Hong Huai. “Many of this personal contacts helped to build the level of warm friendship, confidence and trust between both sides, which allowed us to take the relationship to a higher level.
“Many Singaporeans and Bruneians have been coming to pay respect to the late former president. It shows the level of friendship and the warmth that both countries have for SR Nathan, and is also a reflection of the good ties between the two countries.”
