BSRC remain optimistic of upsetting the odds against pre-tournament favourites Al Idrus and reach the final of the DST National Veteran Football League President’s Cup ahead of their last-four encounter at the Tutong Sports Complex today.

“There are opportunities of reaching the final. Our hopes are to continue improve our achievements from previous seasons,” said team manager Md Saharin Haji Masri in an interview with the media.

The winner of the semi-final will earn the right to face defending champions XN FT, who look on course of sealing an unprecedented fourth title after dispatching I Team, in the final.

Although Al Idrus are expected to win, the Belait-based outfit have arose through multiple challenges to get this far and will happily settle to be tagged as underdogs.

The biggest challenge for the Belait-based outfit earlier in the season was to retain their signature playing style which Md Saharin call the ‘BSRC way’ following the need to fill vacancies in the main positions.

During mid-season, the challenge for BSRC was several players nursing injuries, added Mohd Saharin.

BSRC were involved in a three-way horse race of escaping a competitive group with the top two qualifying to the knock-out stages.

“We feel that all teams in our group posed great challenge. After the third match, our main challenge was between TJ and PBDB whereby three teams harbour similar hopes to reach the knock-out stages,” the team manager continued.

However, Mohd Saharin admitted that the team’s high team spirits has been the key ingredient for success.

“The players who have been selected are asked to play and help each other out in the team. Nevertheless, as a whole there are still weaknesses which needs to be addressed on,” Mohd Saharin said.

The team manager also advised his players to showcase a good performance, get experience and more importantly preserve a healthy lifestyle through sport.
