VIETNAM President Tran Dai Quang who is currently on a three-day state visit to the Sultanate said he hopes to see increased trade, investment and cultural cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam as both countries move forward to forge stronger ties.
Delivering his speech last evening during the State Banquet at the Istana Nurul Iman hosted by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in his honour, the president remarked that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cultural as well as Economic and Trade Cooperation that was forged yesterday will bring people from both countries closer together and push forward bilateral exchanges especially in trade and investment.
The president also praised the flourishing close friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries. “The relationship between our two countries has grown from strength to strength. Political ties have been cemented with regular exchange of high-level visits and meetings,” he said.
President Tran also commended the intensifying cooperation between both countries in areas of trade, investment, security, defence, education, training, agriculture and fisheries – which he said has already seen tangible outcomes. “Our two countries have worked closely to maximise the strength of each country as well as our supplementary advantages in the fields of agriculture, labour, fishery, energy, oil and gas, education and training,” he added.
Apart from bilateral cooperation, the president also mentioned the close coordination both countries share in international and regional forums, especially Asean and the United Nations (UN). “We are working together in the joint effort to build a united and strong Asean Community, playing a central role in the regional architecture,” he said, while also noting that the upcoming ratification of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) pact will allow both sides to share a great deal of common interest and opportunities in advancing further cooperation.
Earlier in his speech, the president paid tributes to the Brunei Vision 2035 that is being envisioned by His Majesty, which he said has turned Brunei into one of the best countries in the world with high quality of life and ideal social welfare policies. “The serenity and brilliant smiles of Bruneians are the most vivid illustration of the success, well-being and prosperity of Brunei Darussalam under the enlightened reign of Your Majesty,” he added.
