A UNIVERSITI Brunei Darussalam (UBD) student yesterday departed for Japan under the Japanese-Language Programme for Overseas Students (Outstanding Students).
Lee Kheng Huan, who is majoring in Business Administration at UBD, was chosen to participate in this year’s programme after her participation in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).
The programme invites overseas Japanese language learners with outstanding achievements to visit Japan.
The programme aims to deepen the participant’s knowledge of the Japanese language, society, and culture, and to further encourage their study in these areas.
In an interview, Lee from Kuala Belait said it has been her dream to go to Japan and she was surprised that through her participation in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test she got selected to go to Japan. “I hope to bring back with me, the memories of Japan’s sights and sounds, and culture.”

The participants of the programme will be staying at the Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Kansai (Osaka) from September 7-21.
They will also be visiting Kyoto, Hiroshima and other locations.
The participants will also attend lectures on Japanese language, and social and cultural aspects of Japan, and visit cultural facilities and historical sites, in addition to a one-day homestay.
The Japanese Language Proficiency Test is a test for non-native Japanese Speakers, which evaluates and certifies Japanese Language proficiency.
The next test will be held on December 4, 2016.
