THE Youth Committee of the Brunei Hokkien Association rolled up their sleeves for a good cause yesterday, during a blood donation campaign at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital Blood Bank Unit.

According to the association’s Youth Chief, Chua Teng Kiat, this is their third campaign this year, to help replenish supplies at the RIPAS blood bank.

As a morale booster, Lim Han Chiong, the Chairman of the Brunei Hokkien Association, treated the donors to free energy drinks.

“I am a regular donor as well, and today is my 46th blood donation,” said Chua, adding that it has certain health benefits.

“I read that donating blood once every three months reduces the risk of heart disease and cancer,” he said.

“Another fun fact is that donating blood can help you lose calories. Not many people are aware of this, so I would like share that little information, in the hope of motivating more donors.

“There is joy in knowing that you can help save someone else’s life,” he added.

The association will be organising another blood donation campaign in December.
