THE Health Promotion Centre (HPC) and the Women’s Bureau of the Mukim Lumapas Consultative Council co-hosted a breast cancer awareness campaign at the Lumapas Primary School yesterday, which was attended by around 200 bureau members, along with several residents from neighbouring villages.
The chairperson of the bureau, Hajah Hammah binti Puasa, said in her welcoming speech that the event was intended to raise continuing awareness on breast cancer, including preventive measures and detection of the disease in its early stages.
She added that several awareness roadshows have already been conducted by the government and private sectors, in partnership with non-government organisations and other agencies.
Yesterday’s programme included a presentation by Dr Raden Mas Jeffri bin Raden Mas Ismail from the Brunei Cancer Centre, a sharing session with a cancer survivor, and a tutorial on breast self-examination.
The campaign was held in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is a worldwide annual campaign to highlight the importance of breast disease, education and research.
