FILIPINOS working and residing in Brunei Darussalam expressed admiration for Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte yesterday at the Filipino Community Meeting 2016 held at the Indoor Stadium in Berakas.
Speaking to the Bulletin, Ronaldo Collano said, “I came here to hear what he had to say this evening. He is doing a good job at managing the Philippines. He is passionate about eliminating drugs, poverty and especially corruption in the government. These are the main problems in the Philippines today. I support our president 100 per cent.”
Meanwhile, Bernadette Bongcalot, who has worked in Brunei for eight years, said, “I voted for him and this is the first time we are seeing him. We are happy he came to Brunei to meet the Filipino community. We hope that in the duration of his presidency, he will develop the country and heal the country from the damage of drugs and corruption.
“He’s the first president from Mindanao. Since his presidency, the problems in Mindanao – such as drugs, corruption, kidnappings and rape – are decreasing. I think he is a very good president, is very down to earth and can relate more to the Filipinos,” said Nor Zafera binti Abdullah Cuasta.

Pauline Bangsilan, who has been a Math teacher in Brunei for 23 years, said, “His speech this evening was on how to direct the Philippines and which direction the Philippines will be going. We are happy that he mentioned he will be running the country the way he wants it to be. He is going to fight corruption, drugs, and for peace and order. The Filipinos will be looking forward to a very safe Philippines when we return, a place where we can have peace and where we can see the improvements.”
Ramon Cito Ramos said, “Our country is going to be more progressive. I can see that our leader is a very good person and honest in his opinions on our country. He will do everything in his power to make our country great again. I hope to see more progress in the Philippines when I go back.”
