EXTREME contemporary threats to Muslims such as pluralism, secularism, liberalism, Syiah, ISIS and deviant teachings can negatively affect the teachings of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jama’ah. Traditional Islamic knowledge should be learnt widely and developed to address the challenges faced by them.
This was highlighted by Professor Dato Dr Ab Halim Tamuri, Rector of International Islamic University College in Selangor, Malaysia (KUIS) when delivering a keynote address titled the ‘Role of Higher Institutions for Sustainable Islamic Traditional Knowledge’ yesterday.
The role of higher education institutions in preserving and enhancing the traditional Islamic knowledge was also highlighted.
Generally there are two systems of education in Islamic education that is Islam as a subject of education and Islamic education as a system of education, Professor Dato Dr Ab Halim said, at the start of the Inter-University seminar on Post Graduate Studies (SAPLI 2016) held at Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) yesterday.
This role can be implemented by institutions of higher education by increasing publication and research in Islamic studies, applying a combination of traditional and contemporary pedagogy, devise a standard of traditional Islamic knowledge, implement the idea of ??Islamisation of knowledge and Islamic knowledge, build the quality academic personnel, developing curriculum of ‘Turath’ or advanced learning at higher learning institutions and strengthening postgraduate studies.
