THE briefing and registration session dedicated to the District Youth Exchange Programme 2016 was attended by youths between the ages of 15 to 25 years of age at the Games Village, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex, Berakas yesterday.
The briefing panel included Shahrinah binti Haji Abdul Rahman, Assistant Head of Youth and Sports, District Development of Youth and Sports Section and Malai Haji Abdullah bin Malai Haji Othman, President and CEO of Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei.
Shahrinah explained to the Bulletin that the programme has its focus on the celebration of the 11th National Youth Day, and the briefing shared upcoming events, activities and schedules that the youths will participate in today and Friday.
The activities include a Doa Kesyukuran ceremony to be held at the Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Malik Mosque, Kg Tungku and other group projects, she said.
The youths will also take part in the auspicious get-together with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for the National Youth Day ceremony to be held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) today, she said.
Other significant activities youths can participate in include visits to the Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam, Centre for Children with Special Needs (KACA) and SMARTER Brunei.

A section of the youths during yesterday’s briefing and registration session dedicated to the District Youth Exchange Programme 2016 at the Games Village, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex, Berakas yesterday.
The youths will also conduct prayers at Kg Pulaie Mosque, and Ash-Shaliheen Mosque and Friday prayers at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, she added. She said they will also attend a religious lecture at Sufri Bolkiah Mosque in Kg Burong Pingai, Berakas after conducting the Maghrib and Isyak prayers.
The lecture is titled ‘Transformasi Belia Dalam Islam’. This will be followed by a cleaning campaign at the mosque. The end of the programme will see the youths receiving their certificates from their participation in the youth activities.
The youths from the four districts included 40 from the Brunei-Muara District, 20 from the Tutong District, 20 from the Temburong District and 20 from the Belait District.
The programme hopes to generate a sense of unity among the youths from various backgrounds from the four districts, as well as to fete the 11th National Youth Day.
It is also hoped that the scheduled activities will give the youths a sense of responsibility and to generate a healthy competitive spirit with a positive mental attitude.
The District Youth Exchange Programme is an inaugural event that will culminate in the 11th National Youth Day, themed ‘Visionary Youth: Catalyst for Transformation’ at the ICC.
