PERBADANAN Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB) conducted a fire drill at its head office in capital yesterday to test its emergency response and evacuation procedures.
As evacuating occupants from the TAIB Head Office Building to safety was the top priority, the exercise aimed to equip staff members with knowledge and hasten the response time in an emergency situation.
According to a press statement, the scenario saw a fire breaking out from within the head office. Acting swiftly, TAIB Chief Fire Marshal coordinated the emergency response procedure and alerted the relevant agencies. Within a few minutes, all staff members, customers and visitors were safely evacuated from the building under the direction of TAIB’s trained Fire Marshal.
Shortly, Fire and Rescue personnel arrived to control the fire and rescue the injured. Head of Operational Risk, Hajah Fatimah binti Haji Masri said the fire drill served as an opportunity for staff members to demonstrate that they can perform fire safety, evacuation duties and responsibilities safely and efficiently.
It was also organised to improve awareness among the staff members on how to employ defend-in-place strategies by using a building’s safety features to protect the people in their care.
The fire drill was more than just an exercise designed to evaluate the building’s fire safety/evacuation plans as it is also served as a staff training programme.
Periodic fire drills will continue to be conducted with the objective of enhancing the level of preparedness in the event of an emergency, the statement said.
