MAERSK Drilling Services (Brunei branch) yesterday held a blood donation drive at its Kuala Belait office.
Maersk Drilling Services Rig Manager Martin Leander Ansbjorn noted that organising a blood drive is a good corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative to contribute towards society, in view of how often supplies are in constant need of replenishment.
“I think it’s a great initiative. We invited our customers – Brunei Shell Petroleum Sdn Bhd (BSP), as well as contractors and suppliers, friends, families and colleagues for this good cause. Donating blood to save lives is a noble cause. It is actually a very easy thing to do, where the hospital staff comes and sets up everything,” he said.
Abdul Hafis Idris Marmin, a lab technician from Suri Seri Begawan Hospital who led the team, explained that blood only lasts for 42 days, thus hospitals need to constantly resupply.
Meanwhile, Maersk Drilling Services Assistant Rig Manager Ricky Liew Zee Loong said it was the first blood donation campaign organised by Maersk Drilling as part of its CSR drive. The company has been in Brunei since 2007.
“We are very proud to participate in this great cause and to offer a service back to the local community.

“This event was planned well in advance with our local hospital in KB supporting this great cause,” Ricky said.
“Most of the donors today are from Maersk Drilling staff and crew, our main client – BSP, our fellow contractors (See Hwa Bookstore, Santa Express, OVE, MOC, Chow Sing Service Center – to name a few), DHL, Standard Chartered Bank, etc.
“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Laboratory Department and Blood Donation section of Suri Seri Begawan Hospital and to all donors for being heroes on this special day,” he added.
In 2014, the company also contributed in another CSR initiative by helping to repair the dilapidated roof of a longhouse in Kampong Melilas, Ulu Belait.
