PEOPLE in Brunei will now have an alternative to car loans – a new car rental company that offers cheap and flexible service.
The new company will launch its operations in Brunei on Monday with a fleet of around 1,000 cars, making it the country’s biggest local car rental.
Known as BETTER, the company has six car brands under its wings – Toyota, Hyundai, Audi, BMW, Subaru and Volkswagen.
It is also planning to bring in more brands in the future.
With its core values of flexibility, ease and better value, the company says it will be offering “unbelievable deals” and a single fixed price, which will also cover vehicle licence, insurance, maintenance and repairs.
The Weekend Bulletin interviewed the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of BETTER Sdn Bhd, Firdaus Mokim, who talked about the company’s establishment.
“The idea came about as part of our intention to give the public a better deal,” he explained.
“We are looking to give flexibility. Customers just pay for the use of the vehicle.
“After the rental period, they can just return the car to the company hassle-free, or change to another brand new car.
“For the four years and 10,000km or 15,000km annual contract plan, the monthly rental is even lower when compared to a seven-year hire purchase loan, and this is already all-inclusive.”
The COO added that customers do not need to worry about the vehicle’s maintenance cost or annual insurance, as they are all covered under the rental fee, which is based on mileage and contract period.
Additionally, he further shared that the car rental service “will also cater to the needs of foreign professionals as well as diplomats who are based in Brunei for a short period of a few years.
“Obviously, people will still continue to purchase cars, but this is an additional, value-for-money convenience or choice made available for the public.”
Customers who wish to cross the border only need to notify BETTER Sdn Bhd a week before their trip in order to prepare the authorisation letter as well as the additional insurance coverage for Sabah or Sarawak, he added.
Compared with a car loan, BETTER offers more flexibility for customers to upgrade, downgrade or simply return their vehicle. They need to only pay for what they use.
“Without the surprise of paying for repairs or annual insurance, BETTER gives customers more control to manage their cash flow or budgets,” said Firdaus.
