A SPECIAL report themed ‘The Brunei Darussalam Report’ will be published in The China Daily in January 2016 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and Brunei Darussalam.
The Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II, Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng on November 3 received the Business Report of China Daily Editorial Director, Justin Calderon and Isabella Romeo, The Business Report Project Director.
Pehin Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng discussed the crucial role China is currently playing in Brunei’s economic diversification efforts, co-mmenting that trade with China has been growing rapidly.
“Trade with China rose very fast and is growing neck and neck with Japan,” said Pehin Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, adding that Sino-Brunei trade volume was “up two to three times in the last 10 years.”

Pehin Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng noted that China is already building highways, bridges and petrochemical plants in Brunei, and that the Brunei government is “serious to work with the Brunei-Guangxi Economic Corridor” to further position Brunei as a geostrategic trade hub in Asean.
“We have been working with China in all aspects on the governmental side and will continue good relations.
“We appreciate very much China’s contribution and support and we want to really expand this,” he added.
The Business Report has conducted several high-profile interviews in Brunei Darussalam, including Pierre Imhof, CEO of Baiduri Bank; and Hasnah binti Haji Ibrahim, Acting CEO of the Brunei Eco-nomic Development Board.
