AFTER eight days of brisk sales, the Seafood Festival at the Muara Fish Landing Complex came to an end yesterday.

Held as part of activities to mark ‘Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day,’ the festival was the third of such events organised by the Department of Fisheries this year.

According to the Fisheries Department, the response was most encouraging with the festival offering the public freshly caught fish and processed seafood products by local traders from the fishing industry.

The event aimed to help local operators find a market for their products and at the same time highlight the benefits of a seafood diet. It also allowed the public to shop for fish and seafood products at a reasonable price.

All those participating in the festival were entrepreneurs from the commercial fishing industry, aquaculture and also the processing sector, which sells processed seafood products such as marinated fish, smoked fish, cracker snacks and shrimp paste.
