RESIDENTS of Kampong Kulapis and its vicinity will have a new mosque that can accommodate around 700 congregants.
The ceremony took place at the project site on a plot of land in Kampong Masin with an area of five acres.
Present as the guest of honour at the ceremony was the Minister of Religious Affairs , Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a call of Azan followed with a mass recitation of Dikir led Zulkifli bin Haji Murat, Authority at the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque.
It later continued with the foundation-laying ceremony which was marked by a concrete-pouring officiated by the Minister followed by other distinguished guests at the venue. A brief talk on the design of the mosque was also delivered by the architect of the project.
Among the facilities to be built for the new mosque include main prayer hall for the men, a separate prayer hall for the women, Imam/Bilal room, store room, kitchen, reading room, meeting room, multipurpose room, parking lot, toilets, separate ablution area and funerary room.

The mosque was funded by a group of individuals as a ‘wakaf’.
A Doa Selamat was read by Zulkifli bin Haji Murat that marked the end of the ceremony.
Also in attendance at the foundation laying ceremony yesterday were Village Head of Kampong Putat in his capacity as a member of Legislative Council, YB Awang Haji Jumat bin Akim; Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud; Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof; Deputy Permanent Secretaries at the MoRA, Haji Harun bin Haji Junid and Roslan bin Haji Taja’ah, members of the Brunei Islamic Religious Cou-ncil (MUIB), directors, senior officers and staff members of the ministry and residents of Kampong Kulapis and its vicinity were present.
