HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam arrived safely in Manila, the Philippines yesterday. His Majesty will attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) 2015 from November 18-19, 2015.
Present at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Manila to greet His Majesty was Joseph Emilio Aguinaldo Abaya, Secretary of the Department of Transportation and Communication of the Philippines; as well as senior officials of the Government of the Philippines.
Also present to greet His Majesty were Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II; and Datin Paduka Malai Hajah Halimah binti Malai Haji Yussof, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the Philippines.
His Majesty then consented to board the motorcade towards the Makati Shangri-La Hotel, where His Majesty will reside throughout the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting.
Upon arrival at the hotel, His Majesty was greeted by Makati Shangri-La Hotel’s General Manager, Alain Borgers.

Prior to leaving for Manila, a Doa Selamat was read by Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.
Present at the His Majesty the Sultan’s Flight Hangar to bid farewell to His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel; and Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah; as well as other members of the royal family.
Also present were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria; Speaker of the Legislative Council; Cabinet Ministers; members of the Privy Council; deputy ministers; Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces; Commissioner of Police; and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Philippines to Brunei Darussalam.
Accompanying His Majesty to Manila are Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance II; and Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar, Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is the premier forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region. It was established in 1989 to further enhance economic growth and prosperity for the region and to strengthen the Asia-Pacific community. Since its inception, APEC has worked to reduce tariffs and other trade barriers across the Asia-Pacific region, creating efficient domestic economies and dramatically increasing exports.
The theme for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) 2015 this year is ‘Building Inclusive Economies, Building a Better World’.
