HER Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman yesterday graced the prize presentation of the Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam’s (PPPBD) Nationwide Al-Quran Recital Competition 2015 at the Muzakarah Hall of the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.
Accompanying Her Royal Highness was Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah, President of PPPBD.
Upon the arrival of Her Royal Highness, the ceremony began with the recitation of the Surah Al-Fatihah read by PPPBD’s Spiritual Commissioner, Hajah Fatimah binti Haji Abdul Ghani, who also presented the review from the Chairman of the Competition Judges later on, followed by a welcoming address by the Chief Commissioner of PPPBD, Hajah Siti Hafsah binti Haji Abdul Halim, who highlighted that 15 participants successfully proceeded in the competition’s finals in five different categories.
The ceremony also saw the champions from the five categories that comprised of the Brownies, Girl Guides/Ranger Guides, Young Leader, Adult Leader and Commissioner categories individually recite verses from the Al-Quran before Her Royal Highnesses, followed by a performance by the Girl Guides of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Girls Arabic Religious Secondary School (SUAMPRIPAD).
The champion trophies for the Commissioner and Adult Leader categories were a Kurnia from Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam, while the Young Leader category champion trophy was a Kurnia from Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah, and the Brownies and the Girl Guides/Ranger Guides category champion trophies were from Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

In the different categories, Umiyatul Hadifah binti Merun from Tutong District championed in the Brownies category, followed by Nurul Jannatul Nabilah binti Ashadi from Brunei-Muara District in second place and Izzah Nazirah binti Mohammad Bahtiar also from Brunei-Muara District in third.
The champion for the Girl Guides/Ranger Guides category went to Hajah Siti Nursyafiqah binti Haji Raslan from Brunei-Muara District, followed by Alimah Najibah binti Azman also from Brunei-Muara District in second, Noramalina from Tutong District in third place and Izyan Khairunnisa binti Haji Ahmad Kilab from Belait District in fourth.
The Young Leader category, was championed by Dayangku Fatin Fetriah binti Pengiran Haji Isa from Brunei-Muara District, with Suhaidah binti Haji Bahrin from Brunei-Muara District in second place and Nursyuhada Amanina binti Zailani from Tutong District in third.
Meanwhile, Hamizah binti Haji Tahamit from Brunei-Muara District bagged the champion trophy in the Adult Leader category, followed by Noorhayatee binti Mazne from Belait District in second.
The final category, Council/Commissioner category was championed by Hajah Linda binti Haji Abdullah , the Assistant Honorary Treasurer from Brunei-Muara District, followed by second place winner Hajah Ostinah binti Haji Othman, Commissioner of the Ranger Guides from Tutong District, and third place winner Siti Zubaidah binti Haji Nor Hisham, Registration Secretary from Brunei-Muara District.
Following the performances, Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah presented prizes to the winners and judges of the competition, and concluding the event was a Doa Selamat also read by Hajah Fatimah binti Haji Abdul Ghani.
The ceremony yesterday served as part of the association’s annual activity where the competition’s main objectives were to encourage its members to have the penchant to deepen, learn and improve their respective Al-Quran recitation quality, to meet His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s vision in having his subjects to be well versed in Al-Quran.
The competition initially was carried out at district levels by the association to select representatives for each district and the final was hosted at the Perdana Wazir Secondary School in Belait District on November 15.
