HIS Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen as the personal representative of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday morning attended the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2015 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta in the Republic of Malta.
The arrival of His Royal Highness at the Mediterranean Conference Centre was greeted by Dr Joseph Muscat, Prime Minister of the Republic of Malta as the Chairman of the CHOGM 2015 and spouse; Maithripala Sirisena, the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as the Chairman of CHOGM 2013 and spouse; and Kamalesh Sharma, the Commonwealth Secretary-General and spouse.
His Royal Highness then proceeded to the Republic Hall at the Conference Centre for the opening ceremony by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom (UK) of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The opening ceremony of the CHOGM 2015 began with the opening statement by the Chairman of the CHOGM 2015.
This was followed by speeches by Maithripala Sirisena, Kamalesh Sharma, and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The ceremony also included several musical and dance performances.
