THE fine quality of Brunei’s handicraft works received a good measure of international recognition during the Kuala Lumpur International Craft Festival (KLICF) 2015 held recently on September 10 – 13.
Siti Joriahati binti Johari, Special Duties Officer from the Tutong District Office, Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), who led the Brunei delegation, stated that the recognition on local Brunei products can be measured through the good level of sales during the festival.
She said the festival was able to bring Brunei’s handicrafts onto a world view and indirectly upgrade the status of the nation’s ‘One Village, One Product’ programme initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs and supported by the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources in its effort to diversify the nation’s economy.
The delegation comprised members of Village Consultative Councils members from different districts – Haji Junggal bin Jumat from MPK Putat, Mukim Lumapas; Awang Haji Ishak bin Kassim from MPK Lumut ll, Mukim Liang; Dayang Nilam binti Lundu from MPK Bukit, Mukim Ukong, and Roslind Njeng anak Jalak from MPK Tanjung Bungar, Mukim Batu Apoi.
Around 250 Malaysian and 150 international handicraft vendors participated in the three-day festival which was held at the Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex. The KLICF is an inaugural event organised by Malaysia’s Ministry of Tourism and Culture held in conjunction with Malaysia Year of Festivals (MyFEST) 2015.
