BRUNEI marked International Day of Persons with Disabilities yesterday with the opening of the Volunteer Rehabilitation Community Project at Pusat Bahagia, in Kampong Pulaie.
The launch was officiated by Dayangku Siti Saihalina binti Pengiran Haji Md Daud, the Assistant Director of Community Development at the Community Development Department (JAPEM).
‘Inclusion Matters: Access and Empowerment of People of All Disabilities’ is the theme of the celebrations this year, which corresponds to efforts being made by the JAPEM in promoting more awareness on people with special needs.
A total of 18 people participated in a sign-language and mobility workshop yesterday, conducted by representatives from the Ministry of Education as well as the Jerudong Park Medical Centre.

The workshop, aimed at providing instructions for volunteers when communicating with people with special needs, was jointly organised by the Parents, Teachers and Students Committee of Pusat Bahagia, which has successfully raised funds for similar activities.
At the same time, the JAPEM is calling on members of the public, especially youths, to volunteer in assisting and caring for people with special needs. For further information, contact Pusat Bahagia at 2330315.
