IT WAS a day awaited for a total of 940 graduates from the Kolej International Graduate Studies (KIGS) yesterday as they were celebrated in a Convocation Ceremony, filling the Arts & Handicraft Centre’s Hall in Kg Subok with a joyous atmosphere and marking yet another milestone for the college as a private educational institution.
Present to attend the event was Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Jefriah during the Skill Certificate Presentation.
Meanwhile, attending the event as the guest of honour to present the certificates was Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, the Minister of Development.
The auspicious occasion began with the recitation of Surah Yunus, verses five to 10, followed by welcoming remarks delivered by Pengiran Hajah Fatimah binti Pengiran Setia Jaya Pengiran Haji Abdul Momin, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KIGS in her capacity as the Chairwoman of the Main Organising Committee of the KIGS Convocation.
During the CEO’s speech, she said that the convocation will see certificate presentations for Bachelor’s Degree programmes in collaboration with the Lim Kok Wing University of Creative Technology, Higher National Diploma, National Diploma, Diplomas and Certificates of Proficiency programme under the Brunei Darussalam Technical and Vocational Education Council (BDTVEC), as well as prizes for Outstanding and Best Student Awards.

Pengiran Hajah Fatimah later highlighted that in hopes of working towards the Brunei Vision 2035, KIGS has set up its long and short term strategic plan to add a variety of courses for prospective students to give them the opportunity to study and have direction.
“KIGS continues to strive to diversify the development of education in order to create skilled human resources, in accordance to the current times and demand in the job market,” said the CEO of KIGS.
It was also stated that with the total number of graduates, 159 graduates received their Bachelor’s Degree, 121 graduates received their Higher National Diploma, 246 received National Diploma and Diploma, while 409 received their Proficiency Certificates.
Moreover, the convocation included three types of Outstanding and Best Student Awards, comprising of the KIGS Best Student Award presented to two students in the Higher National Diploma in Business and Information Technology; the Tan Seri Dato’ Seri Paduka Lim Kok Wing Award presented to two students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology and one student in the Bachelor’s Degree in Business who received First Class Honours in their academics and excellence in their co-curricular activities; and the Setia Jaya Excellence Award presented to one student from the Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology who received First Class Honours with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.90.
The event also saw a speech delivered by the guest of honour, followed by a presentation of KIGS’s corporate video and presentation of awards by the guest of honour. Concluding the event was the recitation of Doa Selamat.
KIGS has, thus far, produced a total of 2,052 graduates since its first convocation in 2007.
