BRUNEI Darussalam recently welcomed the first ever visit by an Airbus Atlas A400M, the UK Royal Air Force’s (RAF) latest transport aircraft. The Atlas Tail Number ZM406 is also the newest member of what will grow to a fleet of 22 aircraft.

The aircraft operated by 70 Squadron RAF touched down at Brunei International Airport at 4.20pm last Thursday to deliver freight to Brunei on behalf of the British Garrison in Seria.

Whilst unloading and being refuelled ZM406’s crew of three were able to enjoy the warmth of a glorious Brunei sunset before taking off for the long flight back home to her base at a cold and wintery RAF Brize Norton in UK.

Capable of carrying a load of 25 tonnes over a range of 2,000 nautical miles at speeds comparable with pure-jet military transport aircraft the Atlas is ideally suited to this long range task.
