TWO underprivileged new Muslim converts can now have a reason to look forward to build better lives when Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (Yayasan) generously contributed new houses for them under its housing assistance scheme.
A foundation-laying ceremony was held to mark the construction of the two houses situated in Kampong Bukit Udal in Tutong yesterday for housewife Hasmani binti Tawi , 43, and also single mother of six, Dayatirina binti Moksin, also 43.
Present at the ceremony was Yayasan’s Managing Director, Haji Brahim bin Haji Ismail.
The scheme is intended for new Muslim converts who are financially burdened and do not have the means to build their own homes. The houses are provided at no cost to eligible recipients based on criteria set by Yayasan.
Construction for the new three-bedroom houses, which has a living area, kitchen and toilet, is expected to be completed in three months.

Housewife Hasnani and her husband, a foreigner working as a manual labour at the Ministry of Defence (MinDef) are currently staying in a dilapilated house with their two children. Hasnani also suffers from health problems such as diabetes, breathing and kidney problems among others, which makes it difficult for her to get a job.
Single mother Dayatirina, is supporting six of her young children, three of whom are autistic and enrolled in SMARTER Brunei. She receives a monthly welfare assistance of $650 from the Community Development Department (JAPEM) but due to her children’s conditions, she is not capable of providing a safe, comfortable and conducive environment for the healthy mental and physical development for her children, especially those who are physically challenged.
Yayasan said the housing assistance scheme is part of its endeavour in enhancing the welfare of the people in the country, in line with Yayasan’s objectives.
