JOHOR BAHARU (Bernama) – A Filipino woman pleaded not guilty to trafficking a girl from Sabah from 2011 to 2013 in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Estrellita Tabanao Padilla, 55, who is a permanent resident here, was charged jointly with Jasrin Yakin, 28, for trafficking the then 12-year-old child for forced labour.
She was accused of committing the offence at Jalan Jayamas 9, Taman Jaya Mas, here since Jan 15, 2011 until May 17, 2013.
The accused was charged under Section 14 of Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act and the Anti Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and maximum fine of RM500,000 upon conviction.
She was arrested in Pasir Mas, Kelantan last January 5.

Judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi fixed February 15 for a re-mention of the case.
Deputy Public Prosecutor appeared for the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented.
