THE strategies under the ASEAN Work Plan on Education are in accordance with the Ministry of Education of Brunei Darussalam’s Strategic Plan for 2018-2022, where one of the strategic objectives is addressing human resources development, especially for teachers.
This was highlighted by Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman at the recent 10th ASEAN Education (10th ASED) Ministers Meeting in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.
The meeting was attended by ministers, deputy ministers and senior officials from all member states of the ASEAN region, as well as representatives from ASEAN Dialogue partners such as Australia, China, Japan, Republic of Korea, Russia and the United States.
In his statement, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah applauded all pledges supporting the implementation of the ASEAN Work Plan on Education 2016-2020, through continuous joint efforts among the ASEAN member states and its dialogue partners.
“This includes the strengthening of resilience and ensuring a better understanding of shared regional identity among the ASEAN Community,” he said.
Included in the statement was on how the 4th Industrial Revolution will impact the future global demands and the job market which has induced a shift in the education paradigm to equip children with relevant knowledge, future ready skills and values.
Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah concluded his statement by reiterating Brunei Darussalam’s full commitment and continuous support to ASEAN, in developing and fostering more educational collaboration and partnerships in the future.
The minister is also scheduled to attend the 4th ASEAN Plus Three Education Ministers meeting (4th APT EMM) and the 4th East Asia Summit Education Ministers Meeting (4th EAS EMM) which are held back-to-back with the 10th ASED.
Accompanying the minister was Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin together with several officials from the Ministry of Education and the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Myanmar.
